This One Basic Storage Tip Will Prevent Battery Degradation
Investing in a DPV is more than buying a scooter—it’s investing in your adventures. Whether you’re using a VR Series model like the Voyager or Quantum, or one of Suex’s professional-grade units like the Goldfinder XJ, proper battery care is critical to protecting that investment.
One simple habit can dramatically extend the life of your DPV battery—and prevent costly degradation. It starts with how you store it.

Why Proper Battery Storage Matters for Suex DPVs
Suex DPVs use high-performance lithium-ion batteries designed for powerful, reliable propulsion. But like all lithium batteries, they require specific care when not in use—especially during long breaks from diving.
Improper storage is one of the most common reasons DPV batteries fail prematurely. And because Suex batteries are a major investment, protecting them through proper storage is the easiest way to avoid costly replacement.
The Most Important Rule: Fully Charge Your Battery Before Storage
Unlike consumer electronics, Suex batteries must always be stored fully charged.
Here’s why:
Lithium-ion batteries experience a slow, continuous self-discharge—even when disconnected.
If voltage drops too low, the battery’s internal protection system can permanently disable it.
Once the BMS (Battery Management System) locks the battery for safety, it cannot be revived.
This is exactly what happens to many divers who put their DPVs away for the winter and don’t charge them again until spring—the battery voltage falls too low, and the pack becomes unusable.
Recharge Every 60 Days During Storage
Suex requires the battery to be recharged at least once every two months during periods of inactivity.
This keeps the battery above its minimum safe voltage and ensures the BMS never enters a permanent shutdown state.
If you only take one thing away from this guide, let it be this:
Fully charge the battery, then recharge it every 60 days until you start diving again.
Important: Suex Chargers Are Not Trickle Chargers
The Suex charger stops charging once the battery is full—it does not maintain or “float” the battery at a safe voltage.
For that reason:
Do not leave the battery connected to the charger long-term.
Charge it fully, disconnect it, and put it away.
Set a reminder to recharge again in 60 days.
Leaving the battery plugged in continuously can cause unnecessary stress and does not protect it from deep discharge.
Other Best Practices for Storing Your Suex Battery
Keep It Cool and Dry
Store the battery in a stable environment—generally between 50°F and 77°F (10°C to 25°C).
Avoid hot garages, cold sheds, cars, or anywhere humidity is uncontrolled.
Disconnect the Battery
If your DPV is an XJ or XK, remove the battery entirely for storage.
For VR-Series scooters, it’s safe to leave the battery installed—but the 60-day charging rule still applies.
Protect It Physically
Use a padded case or dedicated DPV storage area.
Avoid impacts, crushing, or long-term exposure to vibration.
Inspect It Periodically
Every couple of months, check for:
Moisture
Corrosion
Damaged connectors
Unusual smells or residue
If anything looks off, do not use the battery until it’s inspected.
How Long Can You Store a Suex Battery?
Lithium batteries can sit unused for several months only if properly maintained.
That means:
Fully charge before storage
Recharge at least every 60 days
Store in a stable environment
If a battery sits uncharged for too long, it can fall below safe voltage and become permanently unusable—an expensive but preventable outcome.
Why Proper Battery Care Matters
A well-maintained battery provides:
Maximum burn time and range
Safe, predictable performance at depth
Long-term reliability
Lower ownership cost over the lifespan of your DPV
Protecting your battery means protecting your dives, your scooter, and your investment.
